On 19 April 2021, the School of Aerospace Engineering (SAE) organized a one-hour seminar session with two of our excellent alumni, Siew Peng Mun (Class of 2014) and Tee Yi Hui (Class of 2015). Both are from the University of Minnesota, USA.
Peng Mun has recently completed his Ph.D. His research focuses on multiple target tracking for autonomous vehicle situational awareness and sensor tracking for space situational awareness. He will be joining the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) soon as a Postdoctoral research associate in the Astrodynamics, Space Robotics, and Controls Laboratory.
Yi Hui is in her final year of Ph.D. study. Her research focuses on understanding particle dynamics in a turbulent boundary layer. With her outstanding research works, she has been awarded the UMN Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship and the 2018 Zonta Amelia Earhart Fellowship, which are given annually to up to 30 talented women pursuing aerospace-related Ph.D. degrees worldwide.
During the session, they shared their Ph.D. research work and experience as a graduate student in the United States. This invaluable experience sharing provides awareness, insights, and excitement to our SAE students in terms of their potentials and opportunities after the completion of their undergraduate studies here.
Additionally, they also shared with us their studies at SAE and how this experience provided them an explorative platform and developed important skills towards their interest in their Ph.D. research. Our SAE undergraduates need to see the importance and relevance of their studies here towards their study and career paths in the future.
There were around 62 participants who attended this online seminar session.
