The GerhanaSat Challenge 2022 is a competition organized by Independence X to provide participants with satellite design, build, test and operate at a low cost.
It consists of 3 main challenges: the telemetry and telecommand, rover docking challenge and innovation challenge. For telemetry and telecommand challenge, the team was required to send data and receive data at 1 second interval for 2 minutes with a home developed antenna.
There was also a bonus challenge, whereby a payload containing a parachute was dropped from the satellite.
For rover docking challenge, a rover was developed to avoid several physical obstacles to get to the docking station and push the tactile switch on the docking station.
For the innovation challenge, a prototype was developed to solve real problems. Team APEX Orbiters, solved this challenge, by developing a rover, that would detect undiscovered mines and send its location points to satellite. The satellite then stores and forwards data to a ground station.
