LAB DESCRIPTIONThe purpose of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Laboratory, within the School of Aerospace Engineering, is to research, develop, and support a world class, open-source, and low cost aeronautics research infrastructure to enable research and education within the department and world wide. This research laboratory conducts state-of-the-art research on UAV and MAV to enable future commercial aircraft and small UAVs that are significantly safer and more efficient. Some of the research focuses are on aircraft design (i.e. shapes and morphing capabilities) and systems which focuses on propeller design, electric propulsion, solar power, visual data processing and object tracking. The UAV Laboratories supports education by bringing real-world aircraft development and flight testing experiences into undergraduate and graduate level courses as well as having many undergraduate and graduate researchers working on research projects at any given time. We work with academia, and local businesses to explore potential UAV uses and opportunities, such as mapping, as well as developing a framework for safely integrating UAVs into the national airspace. |
