With the latest development of ransomware infection, all users should take the following preventive measures to protect their computer and information:
- Perform regular backups of all critical information, on a separate offline device
- Install and maintain up-to-date anti-virus software
- Keep operating system and software up-to-date regularly with the latest patches
- Do not follow unsolicited web links in email
- Be extra careful when opening email attachments
- Follow best and safe practices when browsing the web
- Upgrade Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 or any lower version of Windows to newer Windows version
